Some people refer to these as “Smokies”, “Smokey’s”, or “Smoky’s”.
So anyhow what we call a “Puff Dog” is a 8 inch Vienna (hotdog) Sausage with Shredded Ham and “Real” Cheese wrapped around, encased by our Bakery rolled Puff Pastry.
We don’t add any sauce or sauces to these before baking, however your welcome to select complementary sauce at time of purchase.
Normally pronounced “Par-stee”, and sometimes spelt Pasty.
We offer 2 different Style of Pastie.
Our main one is made in a Cornish style, however we need to mention it is not quite a true Cornish Pastie.
The filling is a mixture of sausage meat, and vegetable’s (including swede) encased in our Puff Pastry.
Our other Pastie is a complete vegetarian style.
We are confident in saying the vegetarian bit as our Puff Pastry is made without animal fats.
This one always causes confusion. If you do some research you will find a whole host of definitions.
Apparently this cake may not of had French origins as you may perceive. I had a quick look around on the internet myself, and found that the one we call a “French Vanilla Slice” is sometimes referred to as a “Russian Napolean” or a “Napoleon”.
Also not to be confused with a “Neapolitan” Cake (refer to our other post) .
So what do we call a “Napolean Cake”.
We sandwich a Light Vanilla Sponge Cake between a top and bottom layer of our Puff Pastry.
To hold this together we use a coating of Raspberry/Plum Jam, and a layer of our whipped Mock Cream.
On top we Ice the cake with our whipped Sugar Icing.
This is then packaged as a bar cake.
Sounds a mouth full because it is.
We cut the top open of our regular sausage roll, and pipe Freshly Mashed Potato down the centre. Then we top it off with Shredded Ham and melted “Aussie Jack” Cheese.
Of course, if you think you can fit them in. You can always get “Mushy Peas” added at no extra cost. Also you are welcome to have some complimentary Tomato or Barbecue sauce.
In case your wondering we do offer this as a 1/2 size as well.
Our Sausage Rolls are made using Puff Pastry rolled in our bakery.
We use meat from our local butcher.
The answer to the question we are often asked about our filling we use. There is “No Onion”.
Because we make our own sausage rolls we offer a variety of sizes.
Our Standard size is around 160mm.
If you just want one as a side snack, we normally have half size on offer (baked at 1/2 size so you have the crunchy bit on each end).
Of course don’t be shy to ask if you want your sausage roll to have our complementary “Mushy Peas”.
If you need them to be bite size for a function platter (1/4), that’s do-able.
Sometimes known as a “Mille-Feuille”
Layers of our own Puff Pastry, with generous layers of Creamy Vanilla Custard piped between, and a liberal topping of decadent white Fondant.
Yes, we do the “snot block” as well. ( Hey! Don’t judge us, if you do a online search it will come up).
Two layers of our extra flaky Puff Pastry filled with our Mock Cream or Fresh Whipped Cream (doesn’t hurt to ask). A generous line of Raspberry/Plum Jam down the middle and top off with a dusting of Icing Sugar.
Our Apple Turnovers have a diced and blanched New Zealand Apple filling encased with our own Puff Pastry rolled in our Bakery.
You can have the option to have them how they are, or cream filled. Either fresh whipped or our own mock cream. Not to forget the light dusting of icing mixture.
