Vanilla Slice (Australian)

Attention Attention!

This week (7th of August 2017) as a special run we have done a batch that are Gluten and Allergen Digested.

So call in and treat yourself that special treat.

Ok back to the regular part of the Web Page.

Just like the Lamington, what we consider to be an Australian Icon. We are sure there could be quite an argument of where the vanilla slice originated.

Regardless, we feel it doesn’t matter where it came from. If you are reading this, most likely all that matters is where you can get one.

Consisting of a layer of firm Vanilla Custard, (hence why it gets the tag “Engine Mount”, Snot Block”, “Phlegm Cube”, and the list seems to go on) Sandwiched between two layers of our own rolled Puff Pastry.

A layer of our whipped Icing on top creates a flavour to be sought.

Just to clarify, French Vanilla slice is one of our lines as well. Using a different custard recipe, more layers of our rolled Puff Pastry and a Sugar Fondant topping instead of a whipped sugar icing.

Vanilla slice (French)

Sometimes known as a “Mille-Feuille”

Layers of our own Puff Pastry, with generous layers of Creamy Vanilla Custard piped between, and a liberal topping of decadent white Fondant.

Yes, we do the “snot block” as well. ( Hey! Don’t judge us, if you do a online search it will come up).

So where are we

To learn more about our location “search” for “PIE_S@ Ipswich qld”, “Grandads Pies”. There you will find our location and contact details. “Pies At Hotbread Kitchen” can also be found on Facebook.

For the some of the Local people.

We are situated in the Jacaranda Centre, just along Jacaranda Street (that’s right, the street where the Jacaranda Milk Factory was at North Booval), not far from East Ipswich State School.

For those coming from Eastern Heights, come down Chermside Road towards Basin Pocket.  We are just across the road from what is sometimes referred to as “The Old Hockey Grounds”, now known as the “Cribb and Foote Centenary Memorial Grounds”.

If you are coming from Brisbane along Brisbane Road, turn right into Chermside Road when you come to Ipswich Girls Grammar (at the 5 ways).

Alternately if you are coming from Ipswich City Centre on Brisbane Road, (towards Newtown and Booval) turn left into Chermside Road at the Girls Grammar School. http://iggs.qld.edu.au/

Another alternate route for coming from the Ipswich City Centre, along beside the Bremer River, and River Heart Parklands on King Edward Parade/Blackall Street turn into Norman Street (just before the Blackall Street Butchery), we are on the corner 2 blocks along, just at the traffic lights.

If your coming from Woodend, just come along the river past Saint Mary’s school and follow the same route.
